A Wharf borer (nacerdes malamura) is a 7–14mm in length, yellow-brown insect with tips of elytra (wing case) black. It has three ridges along the length of the elytra. It lays eggs on damp, decaying timber, which makes it a common sight around the timber, where rain-water leakage occurs.

Control Measure Correcting the moisture problems and removing or replacing rotten wood is the most effective measure. Insecticide sprays are found to be ineffective. Emerging beetles can be vacuumed or picked up and discarded.
