Residents are to get over 32,000 treated mosquito nets to prevent malaria. “We shall distribute the nets to 7,360 pregnant mothers and 29,000 children under five years,” said Feleas Towet, the district health educator. He added that the nets were given under the Presidential Malaria Initiative with support from the USA. “The health ministry assigned the Malaria Consortium to give out the nets,” Towet said on Thursday after a seminar for health workers at Kook Hall in Kapchorwa town.

Cholera death toll hits nine

The death toll from the cholera epidemic has risen to nine. Alonzio Okiria, 68, a resident of Osiepai village in Appong sub-county, died at Kasodo health centre on Wednesday. The district health officer, Dr. Andrew Namonyo, said 167 people had been infected since the disease broke out a month ago.
