THE Government is to revive the issuance of multiple entry visas but the guidelines will be very strict, the internal affairs ministry permanent secretary has said.

Stephen Kagoda told the parliamentary public accounts committee yesterday that the ministry was forced to reinstate the policy because it was under pressure from foreign investors, tourists, the Uganda Investment Authority and the Ministry of Trade.

He said the applications would first be scrutinised to establish whether the applicants are genuine investors.

“This will be done by officers at our embassies abroad. It will help us eliminate fake investors who use the visas to get jobs here,” he said.

Last year, the Government abolished the issuance of multiple-entry visas after discovering that some foreigners, under the disguise of being investors, were using them to get jobs in the country.

Kagoda said the ministry was being pressurised to abolish visa fees to attract more visitors. He was appearing before the committee to answer queries about different visa charges by Ugandan missions abroad.
