Eric hopes to upstage David Obua

URA midfielder, Eric Obua, could be the youngest child in the prominent Denis Obua family but, is clearly the loudest. The 21-year-old has a strong opinion on everything football, on and off the pitch.
He even has strong criticism of his own father’s FUFA regime, which he says “messed up the country’s most loved game.â€
“Fans should support Mulindwa’s FUFA because it has changed the face of football. Truly, my father’s regime tarnished the game but I think it was due to the people surrounding him,†he adds.
Ever controversial, something akin to his elder and more famous brother David Obua, Eric says his dream is to play for Express FC.
He is the youngest in the Denis and Faridah Obua family of four boys and two girls. He learnt football early as his father often took him to Police FC training ground.
“I used to play soccer in all my previous schools but got involved in the competitive stage at Standard High and St. Mary’s Kitende,†he says.
Bunnamwaya FC was his first club before he joined URA FC. “I wanted to play for a big team and feel that pressure,†he says.
But there has been an itching question as to who is better? David or Eric? “Both of us have the potential and are skilled but when I do something good, people say that I am copying David yet I am a hard worker and train a lot.â€
“David wants me in the national team because he thinks I am even better than him.â€
His immediate target is to make his international debut at the CECAFA challenge Cup in November. Obua made a statement after striking once as URA went on a 4-1 rampage over Rayon Sports in the on-going Kagame Cup in Tanzania.
“To my advantage, Cranes lacks left-footed players. It is only me, David and Ronald (Muganga) so if I continue training hard, I will be summoned,†Eric Obua adds.
Outside football, Eric likes to emulate his bigger brother, and enjoys music and sleeping a lot. He also has plaited hair but denies having any girlfriend because he still lives with his mum.
He advises fellow players to desist from drugs, alcohol and pre-marital sex. “Instead of taking drugs, let them train hard,†he cautions.
