A German is soccer governing body FUFA’s choice to replace Laszlo Csaba as Cranes coach. FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa yesterday indicated his focus is on world soccer powers Germany to provide a coach.

He did not indicate if Gunter Zittel is a candidate as he ruled out anyone who has been to Uganda before. Also off the list, according to Mulindwa are Serb tacticians Micho Sredejovic and Tomislav Sivic.

“I have contacts in Germany and England who are already searching for our kind of candidate,” FUFA boss Mulindwa stated.
“I can assure you we shall soon have a high calibre coach.”

FUFA wants the new coach to start work in the second week of August when Cranes re-group for their September 7 World/ Nations Cup away match against Niger.

“That will be enough time for the new coach to decide what kind of build-up he wants,” explained Mulindwa.

Mulindwa insisted that besides the task of taking the Cranes to the Nations Cup, the successful candidate would help the grassroots.

“We want him to strengthen youth structures, train our coaches and also assist the technical director Edgar Watson.”

Mulindwa said Micho's past experience in Uganda was a plus but noted that his club attachments before make him unsuitable.“Complete independence is crucial. That’s one of those areas where Csaba scored highly.”
Mulindwa also said he doubted Sivic will not suddenly jump out of an agreement again like he did after successful talks in 2006.

“He also seems to be the type that relies a lot on rumours,” observed Mulindwa. He claimed Sivic was derailed by forces opposing him (Mulindwa).

Mulindwa dismissed reports that FUFA might lose out on a sh369m compensation from Scottish side Hearts.

“We actually have proof of Standard Chartered Bank payment vouchers up to June,” maintained Mulindwa.

Hearts have been quiet since they signed Csaba.
“I spoke to Hearts and they say there is no compensation due. They have said that Csaba has told them Uganda owed him money and that is why he tore up his contract,” a Scottish journalist told The New Vision.

FUFA were until late last night locked up in a prolonged meeting to discuss the way forward and consider likely replacements for the Hungarian Csaba.

r Ugandan- born left-footer Savio Nsereko will stay at Serie B club Brescia after turning down an offer to sign a contract with Inter Milan.

The 19-year-old is a member of the U-19 national team of Germany which is taking part at the European Championships.

“You remember the young Nsereko who played in the youth teams of 1860 Munich, which I told you about some 5-6 years ago? That guy is really good now and has also offers from several Bundesliga sides,” said Gunter Zittel, Uganda’s former national technical director.
