Low turnout irks official
MBARARA-The resident district commissioner, Clement Kandole, has criticised the public for shunning the national Population Day celebrations at Kakyeka Stadium on Saturday. He said people are eager to attend Independence and Labour Day celebrations but avoid functions addressing population issues. “We weed to look for better ways of communicating to the public about family planning and population issues,” he told the sparse audience. Mbarara Municipality MP John Arimpa Kigyagi said the Government was not responsible for child upbringing. “The Government only offers the infrastructure but child development remains under the care of the parents.”

Besigye hails editor
IBANDA-Onesmus Turyakira Bisigwaho, the former chief news editor of Voice of Kamwenge radio, was a principled journalist, who could not be compromised, the leader of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Kizza Besigye, has said. Besigye, in a message read by Ibanda FDC chairman Wansajja Kikomeko, said Bisigwaho was not like some journalists paid by the State to smear dirt on the opposition. Bisigwaho, who died of liver failure at Kagongo Hospital on July 8, was laid to rest in his ancestral home in Ishongorero, Ibanda district on July 10.
