KAMPALA City Council (KCC) impounded Pepsi’s RAV4s over non-payment of advertising fees on Tuesday

KAMPALA City Council (KCC) impounded Pepsi’s RAV4s over non-payment of advertising fees on Tuesday, writes Chris Kiwawulo.

The RAV4s, which are some of the prizes to be won during the sh1b “Chamuka with Mirinda and Win,” promotion, were parked at Wampewo roundabout on Jinja Road. KCC’s law enforcement officials towed the cars to their parking yard where they spent four hours.

KCC spokesman, Simon Muhumuza, said the company paid for only six cars, which were supposed to be displayed for three days. “But five days down the road, they were still there.”

Kampala mayor Nasser Ntege Ssebagala said Pepsi had to pay a fine before the cars were released.

Later, Pepsi paid sh300,000 to display the cars up to Friday, after which they were taken back to the roundabout.

Pepsi’s head of marketing Aggie Asiimwe Konde denied that the cars had been impounded.

She said the cars were being towed away to be loaded onto a truck before being taken upcountry for display.

Konde also said they had paid for a full month to display the cars, a statement which Muhumuza dismissed.
