FOR many people, their wedding day is the most memorable function of their life. They cannot forget any bit of it. But there are weddings whose memories live on, not only with the couples, but also with the thousands who witnessed or heard of them. Africana Mulindwa and Jane Nassimbwa Africana Mulindwa and Jane Nassimbwa of Ntinda used motorbikes for transport from the church to the reception on July 12, 2003. Mulindwa hired over 15 motorbikes to transport his bride and the entourage. The couple wed at Namugongo Catholic Church, near Kampala, after which they rode on the bikes to the reception. Many people gathered along the Namugongo Road for a glimpse of the couple. Willie Mugote and Christine The Mugotes used a Fuso lorry for transport at their wedding. The couple, which wed on September 6, 2003 at All Saints’ Church Walukuba in Jinja, surprised crowds when they boarded the fuso to their reception. They put a leather sofa set onto the truck and decorated it with flowers and balloons. Jubilant crowds gathered on the streets of Jinja, waving to couple. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru The Bunyoro king had a glamourous wedding on August 24, 2002, at St Peter’s Cathedral in Hoima. He exchanged vows with Margaret Karunga before Bishop Yokana Mukasa. The wedding attracted thousands of guests from within and abroad. President Yoweri Museveni attended and gave the couple 100 head of cattle. Other dignitaries included the Congolese King of Mahagi, Onencan Coobi Dong and Toro king Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. John Ken Lukyamuzi The former Rubaga South MP walked down the aisle with his long-standing partner, Mary Gonzaga Nalule on October 28, 2000. The colourful ceremony was held at St Joseph’s Centenary Church, Ndeeba. President Museveni donated a heifer worth sh1m to the couple. Charles Wesley Mumbere Charles Mumbere, 52 and Agnes Asimwe Ithungu, 19, on October 20, 2007 tied the knot at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Kasese. The ceremony attracted over 25,000 guests. Dignitaries like defence minister Crispus Kiyonga, Prof. Ogenga Latigo, UPC’s Miria Obote and delegates from other kingdoms attended.
Samuel Wako Wambuzi AT 78, the former Chief Justice, Samuel Wambuzi wed Marion Nakabuye (32). The couple walked down the aisle on March 28, 2008 at Namirembe Cathedral. Bishop Samuel Balagade Ssekade wed them. High profile people in attendance included Prime Minister Apolo Nsimbabi, Gordon Wavamuno, legislators and diplomats. They later traveled in a limousine to Muyenga, where they hosted their guests.
