THE Bell Lager Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) awards regional launches came to a climax last Sunday at Colline Hotel in Mukono.

Selected artistes from eastern, western and northern regions showcased their music before the central audience that is thought to be a bigger platform on the local music scene.

Starting at 5.00pm, the audience was in for a big treat from the 20 plus artistes. When a fireworks display lit the sky, the fun continued.

It was a case of new and established talent. Sweet Kid, David Lutalo (Kapapala) and General Mega D stood out among the evening’s performers including Sophia Nantongo who crowned the show. But others were equally good.

Doreen Mutiibwa with a new song, Love Kyambalo, made an impression.

Gerald Kiweewa had the crowd eating from the palm of his hand when he sang Nabada, a song about the appropriate dress code for women and the challenges of indecent dressing. Kandongo Kamu veteran artiste, Fred Ssebale, excited folks with Ekyapa about Buganda’s land.

A.B Kale, a 40-something upcoming singer was impressive with his Nemeddeko song as was Keicy Mbabazi with Bagala Alina. Fort Portal’s Kigambo Araali, Jinja based HuddleBliss and Arua’s Black Harmony were remarkable. Lady Aisha did shake more booty than singing. But if it was shaking that the fans loved, then they got more from Stingerz Dancers whose antics mesmerised many folks.

Worthy performances also came from Kalikwani, Ayub Khan, Lady Shadia, Ambassador Ssali, Betty Mpologoma, Viva Stars, Moris Hasa, hip-hop act Hannz and Lethal, GNL, Born Ugandans, Bashir Segujja, Rogers Ndawula aka Commando, Mathias Walukaga, Willy Mukabya, Rumansi, Trishilla, Eppy and Gatimo and Paragon. PAM awards will head to Burundi on Friday for yet another chapter towards making it an East African brand.
