THE FUFA technical committee will today meet to vet 20 applicants and come out with a shortlist for the vacant Cranes coaching job.

The federation is also discussing with the Government on a possibility of paying the new coach’s wages. He will be named in the next two weeks.

FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa disclosed this yesterday at a function where the national soccer team The Cranes received the June uganda telecom/USPA Sports Personality of the Month award. Mulindwa and Cranes defender Simeon Masaaba received the award from uganda telecom corporate brand manager Charlotte Kemigyisha.

Earlier, Mulindwa had met state sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi and the two discussed the possibility of Government paying salaries for the Cranes coach.

The FUFA boss also disclosed that he was due to meet another sponsor over the same issue.

“We are trying hard to get a good coach within our means. Hon. Bakkabulindi was positive about government intervention like it is done in other countries,” Mulindwa said.

The job fell vacant two weeks ago when Laszlo Csaba quit to join Scottish side Hearts, with two years left on his contract. He blamed FUFA of breaching his contract saying they failed to pay him in time for two months.

FUFA technical committee chairman Asumani Lubowa said that the number of coaches seeking the job had doubled in the last two weeks.

He said the applicants include three Germans and two Ugandans.
