MTN has introduced a new tariff for prepaid customers dubbed the MTN Zone that will offer up to 99% savings on MTN to MTN calls. MTN’s chief commercial officer, Erik van Veen said: “Customers will save at least 10% and up to 99% and call for as low as sh1 depending on where and when they will make the calls. Discounts will change continually.â€
MTN Zone will constantly show customers on their handsets the percentage of savings they will be making as they move.
It is the first of its kind in the Uganda and fifth in the MTN operational countries.
“MTN Zone relies on unique software that continually monitors the amount of free capacity on the network. The software measures capacity at all levels of the network. Depending on the available capacity, a discount is offered,†Van Veen said at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel on Monday.
“The more capacity available, the greater the discount at the time of making the call,†he explained.
Van Veen said the new tariff would end the price wars in the telecom industry and enable customers make savings, especially with the current difficult economic situation.
MTN Zone is currently available in Kampala, Mukono, Gulu and Mbarara.
