THE wait is finally over…Wyclef Jean will perform at Lugogo Cricket Oval this evening. The American superstar jetted in yesterday alongside DJ Benny D and a crew of 18 backline musicians. Jamal Sultan, a marketing executive with Celtel, the sponsors of the concert, says revellers are up for something bigger than what it was with the Rock with Akon show in May.

Wyclef is scheduled to perform for one-and-ahalf hours. During his shows, Jean, who is referred to as an all-round performer, usually plays the guitar, raps and talks to the audience in English, French, Creole and Spanish.

This time, DJ Benny D will perform some of his ‘mad’ tracks in addition to spinning the discs for Jean. Wyclef’s songs heartily communicate serious messages.

Through music, he tells of his or other people’s struggles, questions politicians and preaches hope. One Internet post from a fan says: “Jean stands amongst the common man and speaks of our pains and brings conviction to those who govern us.”

The concert will be telecast across the 14 countries where Celtel and its mother company, Zain Telecom, operate.
