A TOTAL of 800,000 customers have joined MTN Zone, a new billing system. MTN Zone offers customers per second billing savings of between 10% and 99% depending on the location and time of call.

Philip Besiimire, the senior manager for consumer marketing, said: “In just five days, over 800,000 clients have registered for the offer with an average of 11 people connecting per second during the busiest hour.”

The chief operations officer, Erik Van Veen, said the average discount being received was 55% during the day across the country. This means a 30-second call costs sh113 compared to sh210 if you were on Per Second. That is a saving of sh120.”

“The average discount received during the night is 90%. This means a one-minute call that would usually cost sh250 on Pay Go Standard now costs about sh24. This is an incredible saving of sh226,” he said.

This is the first time MTN Zone has been introduced to East Africa.
