A TOTAL of 141 members of the main opposition party, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese district have crossed to the National Resistance Movement.

Defence minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga on Sunday received the defectors from Kyalhumba sub-county at Kitabu Primary School in Bukonzo East constituency.

During the 2006 elections, FDC leader Col. Kiiza Besigye took 99% of the votes in Kitabu parish, while President Yoweri Museveni got just one vote.

Kiyonga, who is also the Bukonzo West MP, told the rally that the converts had the previous day visited him at his home in Nyakiyumbu to announce their desire to quit the opposition party.

Two weeks ago, the resident district commissioner, Capt. James Mwesigye, said 150 FDC supporters from Kisinga sub-county in Bukonzo East had also crossed to the NRM party.

According to Kiyonga, the former opposition supporters must have realised what he called the big contribution the Government had made in developing the country .
