Kipsiro, Chep jet in for glory quest

ATHLETES and medal hopefuls Moses Kipsiro and Abraham Chepkirwok arrive in Beijing today. The two track stars will arrive with English manager Ricky Simms.
They will be joined later by the trio of Geoffrey Kusuro(5000m, Boniface Kiprop (10000) and Benjamin Kiplagat(3000m SC), who will arrive on Thursday along with coach Benjamin Longiross and the Commissioner for Sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports Dan Tuwesigire.
Sprinter Justine Bayigga (400m) is already here and marched with the team during the opening ceremony on Friday afternoon.
Serugo debuts
Focus will turn to the ring tomorrow when sole boxer Ronald Sserugo takes on Mongolian opponent Purevdorj Serdamba.
A victory against the Mongolian will put Serugo just two bouts away from the coveted medal bracket.
Kenya to bid for Games
Reuben Olita in Nairobi, Kenya reports that Kenya will bid to host the 2028 Olympic Games, Vice-President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka disclosed on Sunday.
The VP, who attended the opening ceremony in Beijing, said that it would be in line with Vision 2030, when the country is expected to have attained the status of a developed nation.
He regretted that no African country had hosted the Games, yet all African countries are active members of the Olympic family.
Minister for Sports and Youth Prof. Hellen Sambili will to liaise with the Minister for Lands, Mr. James Orengo to acquire more land around Moi Sports Complex, Kasarani for expansion.
Musyoka also noted that China had assisted Kenya greatly during the post-poll crisis after Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement disputed election results that declared Party of National Unity’s (PNU) Mwai Kibaki winner.
The Vice-President said that China had identified Kenya as the number one business partner in Africa, saying that President Kibaki had attended the 2006 Sino-Africa Summit.
