DEMOCRATIC Party president general John Ssebaana Kizito has refuted reports that there is a crisis in the party
The talk of a crisis followed the recent acrimonious election of Bukoto South MP Mathias Nsubuga as secretary general.

He defeated acting secretary general, Dr. Lulume Bayiga, the Buikwe South MP, by two votes.

Last week, acting party chairman Hajji Ali Sserunjogi and executive members from the western and eastern Uganda, rejected the polls, saying they were a sham.

“As far as I am concerned, the DP chairman has no authority to cancel a decision that was made by the National Council,” said Ssebaana.

“According to our constitution, the council is the top-most decision-making organ of the party and neither the chairman nor I, the president, can change its decision.”

He vowed that nobody would remove Nsubuga from the office until the next delegates’ conference slated for December.

when fresh elections would be held.
Sserunjogi, said Ssebaana, was an inactive party official, who only fuelled controversy.

But in his letter, Sserunjogi said the election violated the party constitution, which provides that that the National Council must be presided over by the chairman or the vice.

At the time of the election, he added, the chairman, Prof. Joseph Mukiibi, was out of the country and he, the vice was sick.
