HOIMA deputy resident district commissioner William Kabarole has urged the Banyoro to deliver more children, saying the Government will look after them.

“The Government realised the importance of a big population and decided to come up with a policy of free education and medical facilities,” he said.

Kabarole was officiating at the celebrations to mark the World Population Day at Kyabigambire sub-county headquarters in Hoima district on Wednesday.

On several occasions, Omukama Solomon Iguru has also urged the Banyoro to produce more children.

According to the 2002 population census, Uganda has 27 million people of which 3% are Banyoro.

The country’s annual population growth rate of 3.2% remains one of the highest in the world.

If the current trend continues, the population will reach 130 million by 2050.

Finance state minister Jachan Omach noted that such an increase in population will put pressure on the Government and natural resources.
