MTN, Vision Group and Mukwano Group of Companies are the top brands in East Africa.

During the first edition of the EA Superbrands awards at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi, the three companies were ranked among the top 64 brands in the regional and the world.

The awards were presented by Steve Dodgson, Superbrands’ chief operating officer. They were presided over by Kenya’s information minister, Hon. Samuel Porghisio, and the permanent secretary of the EA Commission, David Nalo.

Superbrands’ EA project director and associate publisher, Dawad Jaffe, said it was encouraging to see homegrown brands compete with international brands.

MTN’s head of marketing Isaac Nsereko said the award was an added feather in the brand’s move towards being a global superbrand.

He said the intangible value of MTN at $10b makes it the 39th most valued brand in the world.

This puts MTN ahead of renown brands like investment banking giant, UBS Warburg ($9,838m), cereal makers Kellogs ($9,341m), Ford ($8,982m), Philips ($7,741m) and Siemens ($7,737m).
