DFCU Bank has opened a branch adjacent to St. Balikuddembe Market (Owino) in downtown Kampala. The branch on Kafumbe Mukasa Road, is expected to benefit the over 50,000 vendors in Owino and close to 25,000 vendors at the Park Yard Market plus the business community in the neighbourhood.

The managing director of dfcu Limited, George Mortimer, said the bank would provide affordable banking services.
“Our aim is to make banking easy and affordable and help the vendors save regularly and securely with a bank, which is purely Ugandan, and has 40 year’s experience,” he said.

The chief finance officer, Grace Kavuma, hailed the Owino community for having an organised administrative system, which had made easy for dfcu to establish a branch.

He urged the vendors to take advantage of the bank’s numerous products.
“Maize, soy, rice, small fish millers and blacksmiths shall have the opportunity to get machinery through leasing, while savers shall be able to open accounts with only sh20,000,” Kavuma said.

The chairperson of Market Vendors Association, Angelina Wapakhabulo, congratulated dfcu for being the first bank to establish a branch in East Africa’s largest market.
