THE Rapid Response Unit has rounded-up 15 men suspected of robbery and rape in Mbarara.
The south-western regional police commander, Farouk Muyirima, said the suspects have been staging roadblocks on the roads from Mbarara to Isingiro, Ruharo, Ntungamo and Ishaka, using fake guns and sticks to terrorise the people.
He said those arrested included Yasin Asiimwe, 29, who was wearing an army uniform with pips for a lieutenant.
The others were Justus Tumwijukye, 20, Alex Agaba, 19, Nuwagaba Mishaki, 21, Beka Namara, 17, Daniel Byamukama, 20 and Hannington Kato from Isingiro.
Alex Mwesigye, 19, Vincent Turyasingura, Deus Tumuramye, Amon Baturungaya, Abas Ssemanda and Siraji Sali were also held.
Muyirima appealed to people dealing in second-hand clothes to hand over clothes similar to the UPDF uniform to the Police whenever they find them in their bales.
He noted that despite the many robbery reports in the region, little could be done unless the public volunteered information which can lead to the arrest of the culprits.
Muyirima said the 15 men would appear in court soon to answer to robbery charges.
