PALLISA district is to receive sh1.5b from the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) to fund farmers, reports Francis Okiror.

The district NAADS coordinator, David Okurut, said the enterprises to be funded include citrus, livestock and poultry farming.

He said the farmers, to be selected at parish levels, would get inputs like seeds, tools, pesticides but not cash.
He said Kameke, Kamuge, Agule, Apopong, Kibale, Gogonyo, Kirika, Tirinyi, Butebo, Kabwangasi and Buseta sub-counties that piloted the NAADS scheme, would get sh77m.

The other 10 sub-counties being funded for the first time would each get sh51m. They include Kasodo, Puti-Puti, Pallisa, Petete, Kakoro and Kadama. Others are Pallisa town council, Bulangira, Kibuku and Kagumu.

The district chairman, Issa Taligoola, said community-based selection committees would be formed in every parish to procure citrus seedlings, improved goats, dairy cattle and poultry chicks for the farmers.

He warned against corruption, nepotism and politics when selecting beneficiaries and in implementing the project.
