A GIRL who was caught having sex in Buchicha church of Uganda in Busia district, has apologised.

“I am ashamed of myself. I am worthless to stand in front of you and ask for forgiveness,” said the 17-year-old girl, who was accompanied to the desecrated church by her mother.

She apologised during a cleansing ceremony held on Sunday.

The Christians had boycotted prayers in the church and demanded an apology from the culprits. “It was a satanic act and we never expected anyone to come to church at 6:00pm on a Tuesday, so I ask the entire church and God to forgive me,” the girl said.

The unidentified boyfriend was not present.

The Archdeacon of Samia Bugwe, the Rev. Can. Martin Luther Ofwono, who presided over the ceremony, referred to the Biblical story of a woman who was about to be stoned to death over adultery but Jesus dared those who had never sinned to go ahead.

So he appealed to his flock to forgive the girl.

Busia deputy resident district commissioner Emily Akullu noted that cases of HIV/AIDS were on the rise and appealed to church leaders to use their influence to educate the people on the scourge.
