THE new Christ the King parish priest Monsignor Gerald Kalumba has called upon sports journalists to take advantage of the popularity of sport to build one society.

Speaking at a Mass to remember the works of 26 late sports scribes at Christ the King church yesterday, Kalumba said that sports journalists are privileged because they associate with people from different walks of life since sports cuts across all boundaries.

“People these days are touched by sport. You can use this in your trade to build a society that is responsible and loving, a society that accepts defeat, a society that accepts its own failures because there is always defeat in sport which is a failure,” Kalumba explained in his sermon.

The function was organised by the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA).

The Mass was held for 26 journalists including Francis Batte Jr, Peter Ekarot, Rashid Mudin, Kenneth Matovu, Sammy Kateregga, Leo Kabunga, Muzungu Kanga, David Matovu, Freddie Sekabembe and Samuel Wossita.
