KYAMBOGO University has got one of the most comprehensive art courses. Among these is the Bachelor of Industrial Art and Design (BAID).

This is a three-year course usually offered at undergraduate level. This course will expose your child to a variety of disciplines, including Drawing, Fabric Decoration, Graphic Designing, Sculpture, Interior Designing, Weaving, Multimedia Crafts, Print-making, Art History and an art project.

In their first year of study, students will take most of these courses. In their second year, however, they have an option to select some and leave others. According to Robinah Nabifo, a lecturer in Kyambogo, this course will give both theoretical and practical skills to your child, enabling him to take on art and or design-based careers.

After this course, your son can work as: an interior designer (household compound), fabric designer (fashion), graphics artist, sculptor, or textile designer, among others.

Nabifo says that many of these courses offer prospects for self employment. They are particularly marketable today because of the growing market for design based services.

It will be important that your child has taken a course that he is interested in. This will afford him a chance to enjoy and make the best of it.
