UGANDA’s athletes could have a share of the sh4.8bn prize money earmarked for top performers at the IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany. The money is offered by organisers and sponsors of the two-day show starting on Saturday.

The top eight athletes will get various amounts of cash while those who finish in 9th to 13 positions will each walk away with $1000 (sh1.6m). The annual event officially closes the IAAF World Athletics Series.

At the same event, 19-year old Kenyan Pamela Jelimo will receive a $1m (sh1.6bn) cheque for winning all the six 800m Golden League races.

Ugandans Abraham Chepkirwok and Moses Kipsiro have already qualified in the 800m and 5000m respectively.
Their compatriots Boniface Kiprop and Benjamin Kiplagat are praying for an invitation to compete in the 3000m and 3000m Steeplechase events.

They stand high chances of being invited having garnered enough points to be among the top 13 in the rankings.
Kenya’s dominance in the events to be competed for could favour the Ugandans as IAAF would like to have an international event which has as many nations as possible.

  • Martin Toroitich and Moses Aliwa will represent Uganda in the World Mountain Running Race due Sunday in Sierre Crans Montana, Switzerland. On the same day, other athletes will be in Sironko for the national road running championships.,/li>
