A city electrician, Charles Njuki, on Monday became the first winner in the Bukedde FM promotion. Njuki, a resident of Nateete a city suburb, won sh2.9m in a highly competetive promotion launched on September 1. A total of sh7.5m is up for grabs.

Njuki could not stop smiling as Bukedde FM presenters, Bills Buttoddene and Oulanya Columbus, handed him the jackpot.

The two present the popular evening programme, ‘Akayisanyo’. While listening in to ‘Akayisanyo’on Monday, Njuki received a call to which he answered: “Bukedde Fa Ma Embutikizi” as required and instantly became the first winner.

“I could not believe it. I thought it was a dream,” the beaming Njuki said. Bukedde FM, launched in July, is the latest sensation among vernacular radio stations. It is owned by The New Vision Printing and Publishing Company.

“Anyone, other than employees of the company or their relatives, can take part in the promotion. One only needs to tune in and when called say: “Bukedde Fa ma Embutikizi”

The promotions manager, Kevin Masaba, said between 7:15am and 5:25pm listeners are also given an opportunity to win sh500,000.

Njuki said he would invest his prize money in building houses for rent back home in Masaka and use part of it to pay school fees for his six children.
