The Chief Administrative Officer, John Okolimo, said: “We want to know the types of domestic violence, where it happens and the perpetrators.” The district information officer, Joe Erem Oyie, said they are being supported by the National Democratic Institute for International Development. “The communities would be given the opportunity to talk about their experiences with the problem so that they can own the policy,” said Oyie.

Man detained over killing wife
GULU-A man suspected of hacking his wife, Filder Akumu, to death has been remanded to Gulu Central Prison. Denis Okello p'Mali appeared before Gulu court presided over by Grade Two Magistrate Michael Okonye, who said if convicted,Okello would get a death sentence. Okonye said the offence can only be tried in the High Court.

Woman held over child theft
ARUA-The Police in Arua on Saturday arrested a woman suspected of stealing a child from Buruku Cell in Oli division. The suspect, identified as Christine, Avako is a wife of a UPDF soldier attached to the 409 Brigade in Arua.The West Nile regional UPDF spokesman, Capt. Robert Kamara, on Monday condemned the act of a soldier’s wife stealing a child and asked soldiers to take full charge of their family affairs. The Police said Avako is said to have stolen the child from its mother identified as Fatima Yesco.

Army to seize illegal guns
GULU-UPDF 5th Division has launched operations to recover illegal military weapons and fatigues from civilians and armed thugs. The public relations officer, Capt Deo Akiiki, said in August the army recovered more than 10 machine guns with 500 bullets from thugs who have been terrorising the people in Lira, Pader and Kitgum districts. The army also killed seven armed thugs and Karimojong rustlers.Fourty- five head of cattle and 33 goats were recovered.
