THIS year’s the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) trade fair will run from October 6 to 13 under the theme “Linking production to prospective markets through value addition,” a top official announced over the weekend.

The 16th annual Uganda International Trade Fair would be conducted at the UMA Show Grounds in Lugogo, near Kampala.

Gideon Badagawa, the UMA executive director, told commercial attachés of various embassies, and consuls that over 850 exhibitors from 31 countries were expected.

“We expect more that 170,000 show-goers to visit the exhibitions.
“Therefore, this is a big opportunity for businesses to showcase their products,” he said at UMA boardroom.

“Small-and-medium enterprises will have opportunities to learn a lot of technologies and innovations from South Africa and elsewhere so that they improve their productivity.

“It is a chance to meet new business partners and to introduce companies to the great region’s expanding market,” Bagadawa argued.

“We are looking at strengthening linkages between agriculture and manufacturing in order to add value chains for export and that’s why we are going beyond manufacturing to modernisation of agriculture and livestock,” the executive director said.
