Tony Mugalu, the man said to be the leader of the iron-bar hit squad, has been arrested.

The Police raided his residence in Katwe, Kinyoro Zone in Kampala at the weekend and recovered weapons and tools used in the gory trade. Also recovered were scores of household items.

The Police described his arrest as a ‘big catch’ in the fight against the new wave of crime in the city.

Kampala Police spokesperson Simeo Nsubuga, flanked by his boss Edward Ochom, yesterday paraded Magulu before journalists at the city’s central Police station.

“He has been behind most of the attacks in Katwe and Rubaga areas. He has been carrying out the attacks with his group but we have arrested many of them,” Nsubuga said.

Ochom appealed to the public to volunteer information about Magulu.

“This man lives in our communities and has friends. People know him and his friends and can help the Police in pointing them out or identifying the stolen items,” Ochom said.

He directed that journalists be allowed to photograph the recovered items so that they can help the public identify their items.

The items included a blood-stained baseball bat, penknives, TV sets, radios, mobile phones and clocks.
