SUPPORTERS of one of the Kyabazinga candidates, Prince Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, have embarked on cleaning his palace in preparation for his expected election as Busoga Kyabazinga.

Residents from Kamuli and other areas cleared bushes at Budhumbula palace in Bugabula from Saturday to Monday.

The cleaning was organised by the Bugabula Isabalangira (clan chief), Caesar Lukalu, in conjunction with the area MP, Gerald Menyha.

Menyha said this was a gesture of love and support for Gabula after he was endorsed by the clan parliament.

“Community services at this palace will be continuous and will be held every October 9. This is the day Gabula was officially coronated as Bugabula Chief, a prerequisite for becoming a Kyabazinga,” Menyha said.

The volunteers cleared the bushes around the palace and slashed bushes around Sir William Wilberforce Nadiope’s royal tombs.

“Gabula is our agemate, we must show the world that we support him and when he becomes king, we shall respect him more,” Joseph Mawerere, a student from Kyabazinga College, said.

“We endorsed Gabula and have already finished performing the ancestral ceremonies, we have a shadow cabinet that is ready to guide him,” he said.

Schools that got involved in the cleaning included Kamuli College, Kyabazinga College, Kamuli Progressive and Central College Kamuli.

Businessmen from Jinja and Kamuli districts and chiefs and bodaboda cyclists participated. The Basoga chiefs reportedly yesterday said the election of a new Kyabazinga that was to be held on Friday had been postponed to October 31.
