A TEENAGER accused of raping Kyambogo University girls before robbing them of their property, is in Police custody.

The Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba, said yesterday that Kenneth Mwaka, 19, on Tuesday at 10:00pm went with two accomplices to a hostel near the university and raped three girls.

After raping the girls, Nabakooba said, the attackers allegedly asked them for food and tea.

“They ate their cassava and drank the tea before making off with the girls’ money and other items,” Nabakooba told journalists at the Rapid Response Unit headquarters in Kireka, a Kampala suburb.

She said Mwaka was arrested on September 23 as he allegedly tried to enter a hostel that was being monitored by the Police. She said he would face charges of rape and robbery.

Mwaka, dressed in a red T-shirt and blue jeans, identified his accomplices only as Ochen and Okello.

He said he raided hostels after 11.00pm when students were sleeping.

“I would rip off their pants before raping them,” Mwaka, said, adding that he would sometimes hit his victims with iron bars.

In another incident, five men suspected to be behind the gangs that clobbered city residents with iron bars were arrested.

Shafique Baali alias Abdu Mukyafu, Isma Wasswa, James Kakaire, Alex Sseruyange and Tony Lumala were rounded-up in various city suburbs.

The gang mostly targeted phones and motorcycles.
