IF you enjoy grilling your food, the thermometer fork is just what you need to save you the hustle of checking on your food every other minute. “There is nothing more annoying than grilling under inadequate lighting, and not being able to accurately gauge whether the food is cooked,†Helen Mukasa, a housewife in Kansanga, says.
“Sometimes, you end up over-cooking the food just to be sure the inside is also cooked.†With the thermometer fork, simply insert the stainless steel prongs into the food.
A digital display on the top of the handle displays the food’s internal temperature. The fork uses one AA battery. The fork has digital controls that tell you when the food is cooked. It is perfect for both indoor and outdoor grilling.
The fork is efficient and can also be used for thin cuts. It can read anything from zero degrees to 220 degrees Celcius and has a reference guide on the back of the fork showing how hot a given piece of food should be when it is cooked.
Beef needs a temperature of between 64.5 and 70 degrees Celcius, while pork needs temperatures of 79 to 100 degrees. The fork is also easy to clean. “Clean the prongs with soap and water.
It is not advisable to submerge the handle in water. The fork can also be put into the dishwasher,†says Abu Nyende, a manager at Shoprite, Lugogo. The thermometer fork costs sh25,000.
