Dear Doctor, For 10 years, I have had a strange swelling in my stomach. A doctor told me my spleen is enlarged. It causes fever, headache, body pain, difficulty in defecating and gassing and my memory is weak. What can I do? Ricky
Dear Ricky, THE spleen is a small organ on the left, under the ribcage. Usually, you cannot feel it. One of the common causes of spleen inflamation is frequent attacks of malaria, especially in children.
Usually, the only symptom is feeling heavy on the left side of the tummy, but it is unusual for the condition to be associated with other symptoms.
So do not assume that the spleen is causing the symptoms. See a doctor.
