THE Danish Crown Princess, Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, with the help of experts on Thursday detonated an antitank landmine in Gulu district. The demining specialists from the Danish Demining Group said most of the landmines had been blown up.

Accompanied by the Danish ambassador to Uganda, Nathalia Feinberg, the crown princess set off the Belgianmade landmine at Pakwelo village near Unyama internally displaced people’s camp.

The princess also launched a mine-risk education at Pakwelo Primary School, a sensitization expected to benefit 33 schools in Gulu and Amuru districts. She urged the children to sensitise their siblings and parents on detecting landmines using the knowledge acquired.

Samuel Paunila, a manager with the demining group, said more sensitisation would be done in schools. He noted that they were targeting a maximum of 600 schools.
