SPORTS minister Charles Bakkabulindi has ordered UABF to suspend their annual general meeting due in Kasese, October 25. The decision follows a Monday meeting between the minister and the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) executive led by Roger Ddungu.

Ddungu is at loggerhead with a section of boxing clubs. They want him out accusing him of tampering with the federation’s constitution to extend the executive’s term of office from two to four years.

As a first step in resolving the wrangle, Bakkabulindi launched his own probe into the matter and asked NCS to furnish him with all relevant details.

“I met them and they presented their case. I want more documents to understand the issues better,” Bakkabulindi said yesterday. “Since we are looking for an amicable solution, I advised them (UABF) to suspend it (AGM). I remember telling them so, if I didn’t they should do it now.”

A four-man NCS team has completed a separate investigation after an appeal by the rebel clubs led by Kampala Central Division LC 3 boss Godfrey Nyakana. The team has submitted its findings to the NCS chairman Charles Katamba.

Nyakana’s group wanted the Kasese meeting to be an elective assembly basing on the old constitution that provides a two-year term for the executive while Ddungu’s executive considers it an ordinary assembly.

Ddungu has also been accused of hiking club affiliation fees to sh0.5m from sh20,000 which they claim clubs cannot afford.

UABF secretary David Kyambadde confirmed the meeting with the minister.
He said they had registered ten boxing clubs including UPDF, Kilembe, Kasese and Katwe for the October 25 meeting.
