FOUR local leaders in Bushenyi district have been detained over the murder of two people by a mob.

George Byambwenu, the Rwanja Parish LC2 chairman, defence secretary, David Rubarema, Kangano village’s defence secretary, Yoram Mugarura and Bindeba Tumwebaze, the Kabira sub-county internal security officer are in detention at Bushenyi Police Station.

The district Police commander, Jimmy Oyuku, said the suspects allegedly commanded the mob that beat up Asaph Kamusana and Naboth Mugarura on September 9.

The killing of Kamusana and Mugarura followed the death of Charles Tumwiine whose mutilated body was found in the bush.

Oyuku said the four leaders had implicated Kamusana and Mugarura as the key suspects in the killing of Tumwiine.

Oyuku blamed the leaders for not protecting the suspects.
He also accused the LC2 chairman, Byambwenu, for unlawfully slaughtering a bull from Tumwiine's farm at his (Tumwiine's) burial.
