Another Masaka woman eletrocuted at clothes line

RESIDENTS of Mabeera zone in Nyendo Sennyange Division, Masaka municipality, were on Monday shocked when a woman who was hanging clothes to dry on a line was electrocuted

RESIDENTS of Mabeera zone in Nyendo Sennyange Division, Masaka municipality, were on Monday shocked when a woman who was hanging clothes to dry on a line was electrocuted, reports Ali Mambule

The woman, identified as Annet Naluswata, was the wife to an unidentified boda-boda cyclist and a restaurant attendant in the area. Her husband was not present at the time of her death.

A neighbour said Naluswata could have touched one of the wires which was linked to an un-insulated cable supplying electricity to the neighbouring houses.

“I heard her scream after touching the live wire and when I moved out to find out what was happening, I found Naluswata down (on the ground) but still alive. I tried to save her life by cutting some of the wires but she continued to be shocked yet I too feared to touch her in that situation,” said John Kayira, a neighbour.

He added that Naluswata was bare footed. Kayira was assisted by other residents who switched off the power supply from the meter box but by then, Naluswata had died.

John Bagarukayo, the officer in charge of Nyendo Police post, attributed the cause of Naluswata’s death to the illegal power connections.

“The power connections here are dangerous. A similar problem may occur if nothing is done to rectify the wiring system of these houses.”

Naluswata is survived by a nine-month-old girl. She is the second person to be electrocuted in Nyendo this year. Another woman was electrocuted while hanging her clothes to dry.
