SURPRISE table leaders Simba will come out of their month-long Uganda Super League hibernation with clear intentions of stretching ground over title rivals URA FC and KCC FC.
However, their intentions could suffer a massive setback in an all-armed forces soccer derby with Police in Bombo today.
Simba, whose impressive run was momentarily put on hold by the Cranes’ World Cup qualifying engagement with Benin last weekend, have not beaten Police in their last four league outings.
The 2005 league champions edged the army club with identical 1-0 results in both rounds of the 2007 season after posting yet again identical 2-1 scores in both rounds of the previous season.
Simba lead striker Godfrey Wakaza says he is optimistic the poor run will end. “The desire to win and team ethic this season will change that. We work for each other and that explains why we are doing better,†he remarked.
Wakaza’s five league goals have since shown that there is life after the departure of Bruno Olobo to Police.
* FUFA has decided to include all the Uganda Super League teams in the Kakungulu Cup although the majority are yet to pay the sh0.1m registration fee, reports Swalley Kenyi.
The draw for the second biggest football competition after the Uganda Super League will be held at FUFA House on October 29.
* FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa has asked his vice presidents to prepare a brief for the federation’s emergency committee regarding the Cranes performance in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
The committee comprises Jowali Kyeyago (vice president finance), Asuman Lubowa (technical), Col Jackson Bell Tushabe (competitions), Justus Mugisha (Youth), Richard Barigye (administration) and Bagunywa Nkalubo (women).
