THE rugby sevens players’ fitness impressed new coach Norman Mbiko in their first training stint with the visiting South African held at Kampala rugby club yesterday evening.

In an interview the tactician said, “I am impressed the boys are in good form and have passed with flying colours; and tomorrow (today) we shall just improve further on them.

“On average they all passed in level 14 with the exception of Anthony Kinene and Joel Anguyo who excelled and passed with level 17 and 16 respectively,” added Mbiko.

He said: “we shall now need to concentrate on mental fitness and attitude. Many teams loose not because they are weak but because players fail to control their emotions.”

He said he will grade pass them according to their skills and ability.
“We shall assess their skill levels and build a watertight defence in the next few days to enable them break any strong wall.”

The players under training for the sevens include Brian Kikawa, Mathius Ochwo, Robert Seguya, Timothy Mudoola, Edmond Tumussime, Daniel chaniwira, Brian Atubikire, Lawrence wakabi, Gordon Cyonga, Michael, Chris Lubanga, Timothy Ddumba, Anthony Kinene,Allan Masiko, Allan Musoke, and Joel Anguyo among others.

The 18 man squad will be reduced to a 12-man team that will battle against Cameroon and Swaziland in the World Rugby sevens qualifiers in Tunis, Tunisia October 30- November 1.
