Why do my knees swell?

Dear Doctor,
My knees swell and pain. Sometimes this lasts 10-12 hrs before they get back to normal. I also sometimes feel feverish but all tests come back negative. I've tested for HIV, typhoid, malaria and bilharzia. The problem is on and off.
What could it be?

IT is possible that you have a problem of the joints known as arthritis which is chronic or recurrent.
This may or may not be the cause for the times when you feel sick. See a physician (doctor specialist in adult medicine - you have not told me your age) for an assessment, tests and a diagnosis.
