THE High Court has blocked Kigulu chief Prince Patrick Izimba from participating in the Kyabazinga race.

This is because Lt. Col. Chris Mudoola is also claiming to be the leader of the chiefdom. Although Izimba and Mudoola were reconciled by the late Kyabazinga, Henry Wako Muloki in 2003, Mudoola resurrected his claim for leadership of the chiefdom after Muloki’s death.

Addressed to the Issabalangira and acting king of Busoga, David Kaunhe Wakhooli, the injunction also orders Izimba to stop referring to himself as the chief of Kigulu since the chiefdom has no legal hereditary ruler.

“The case is before court, which means Kigulu has no recognised hereditary ruler to participate in the race for a new Kyabazinga,” Busoga information minister Michael Kifubangabo said.

He argued that since Busoga constitution stipulates that the Lukiiko must have a quorum of eight hereditary chiefs to elect a new king, the absence of a representative from Kigulu will not affect the process.

Chiefs from the 11 chiefdoms of Busoga are mandated to name a new Kyabazinga from the five princes hailing from the Abaisengobi lineage.

Izimba disclosed that he had not officially received the court order but a copy had already been pinned on the notice board at Bugembe Kingdom Headquarters.

“I will go to Bugembe on the election day. If I am blocked from participating in the elections, then my chiefdom will have no option but to secede from Busoga,” Izimba threatened.
