Two private secondary schools in Bushenyi district were on Tuesday closed over conflicts between students.
The schools are Trinity vocational and Kyeitembe vocational secondary schools.
All students were ordered by the Police to leave the schools on Tuesday, apart from the Senior Four students, who were allowed to remain and finish their O'Level examinations.
The district Police commander, Jimmy Oyuku, said the directive to close the two schools came from the district education officer (DEO), Norman Lukum.
He said the moved followed persistent fights between the students of the two schools.
Oyuku said the conflict started on Saturday night at a disco dance in Kyeitembe village, where two students fought over a girl.
He said on Sunday, Kyeitembe Vocational School was attacked by people who attempted to burn one of the dormitories.
Oyuku said the DEO decided to close the schools to avoid worse problems that could lead to loss of life.
“The students at Kyeitembe were in fear because of their dormitory, which was set on fire,†he said.
Oyuku said six students of Trinity Vocational School were arrested following the invasion.
Some Kyeitembe students, who were beaten, he said, were taken to Ishaka Hospital.
Meanwhile, six Senior Four students of trinity vocational school were arrested over robbery and assault.
The criminal investigation officer, Bernard Badu, said the students, after attacking students at Kyeitembe, vandalised property.
