EDUCATION and Sports state minister Charles Bakkabulindi last week brokered a Federation of Uganda Football Associations meeting with SDCA to pave way for an improved Super Division League.

After trading accusations and counter accusations between FUFA and its affiliates SDCA, the different parties agreed to nominate names for the National Super League Committee.

Lawyers Richard Omongole, Fred Muwema and Kavuma Kabenge, together with former committee secretary Livingston Lajan are SDCA’s nominees for the committee. FUFA will from these names select two for co-option to the six man league committee.

The idea of broad committee move is great. What however remains to be seen is whether it will not be undermined by petty politics.

True, the league needs transformation. But if fruits are to be realised, changes must start right from the clubs. It’s time clubs became well managed and organised institutions free of the constant bickering and politicking currently bedevilling them.

Clubs with well defined management structure, sources of income, youth teams and fan bases will attract more people to the stadium and ultimately more sponsors.

SDCA as the body uniting clubs should therefore take the lead in ensuring that its affiliates are well constituted.

With that initial step, the new NSLC will on its inception take on an even easier assignment of organising a league of properly constituted clubs.
