THE year 2008 is Juliana Kanyomoozi’s. She has just bagged the artiste of the year award, going down into history as the first woman to win the title. This also extends her reign as Kampala’s top fashion and style artiste. Here is how she has ruled the trends.

Simple, sexy and unique clothing style
“I make sure my clothes are simple, sexy and unique,” she says. Juliana is not a fan of coloured outfits, heavily embroidered gowns or heavy African jewellery.

She wears hip-hugging jeans, miniskirts, hot pants, blouses that show cleavage and evening gowns that accentuate her curves.

“I buy most of my clothes from H&M (a US clothing outlet), but I think Woolworths, Sylvie’s Boutique and Kim’s Bridal have good outfits for urban women.

Juliana’s style idols include Halle Berry (once voted the world’s sexiest woman), Beyonce (another on the world’s sexiest women) and Alicia Keys.

She seems to wear a pair of shoes once
For every new dress she buys, Juliana also buys a pair of shoes to match it. “I have so many shoes that sometimes I do not know where to put them, let alone which ones to wear,” she says, adding that she is so obsessed with buying shoes that every time she goes to a boutique, her jaws literally drop.

“I always feel like taking all the shoes on display. I try on every pair and pay for it until I am cash-strapped, then I go back home to admire my buys,” she says.

No bad hair days
“I hate long and big hair. I do not want to stand in front of the mirror every morning combing and styling my hair. That is why I keep my hair short and cropped,” she says.

But she has learned that she cannot have the same hairstyle, so once in a while, Juliana wears a wig or does a weave for a special event. Her salon is at Mosa Courts, where she also does her manicure and pedicure.

“I prefer to have my nails natural because they are easy to take care of. You cannot just go around touching everything with your artificial nails.

So, whenever I get the time, I have my nails painted. When it is time to party and look hot, I go for the artificial nails.”

Make-up
“I do my make-up best. I never let anyone else touch my face, except Blu*3 artiste Jackie Chandiru (who sometimes does my stage make-up,” she says. Juliana uses only MAC cosmetics.

Body piercing
She says there is nothing that looks better on a woman’s body than a ring. She has one on her left eyebrow, navel and two on both ear lobes. “That is what sets me apart from the rest. It is stylish, sexy and unique to have your body pierced.”
