THE Police in Hoima are holding four family members in connection with the murder of a two-year-old boy.

The district criminal investigations officer, Peter Achire, identified the suspects as Fred Tumusiime, 24, the father of the deceased, Mary Kobusinge, 40, the grandmother, Everest Kato, 16, and John Isingoma the paternal uncles, all residents of Kyabigambire sub-county.

Achire said on Tuesday the four are suspected to have killed the boy, Derrick Bainomugisa and buried him without notifying his mother in July this year.

He said the incident came to light when the mother of the deceased, Annet Kobusinge, a resident of Kiryatete in Hoima town, went to check on her son at the home of her mother in law and found him missing.

“The mother of the deceased separated with her husband, Tumusiime, and they shared out the children. Her husband took Kato to his grandmother where he was allegedly buried in July,” Achire said.

“The mother went to check on her son and when she asked for his whereabouts, nobody gave her a direct answer. But she later learnt that he was long dead after inquiring from neighbours.”

He said although the suspects had denied killing the boy, it was strange that they did not inform the mother about the death.

“They are all telling us that the boy fell sick and passed away and they buried him, but we are wondering why the mother was not informed about her son’s death,” he said.
