NEMA contributing to noise pollution!

EDITOR—As a resident of Ntinda, I do not think it is fair for me to sound-proof my home against the noise of club Palui and Yakobo joints.

I moved into this lively, quiet residential area 20 years ago and these discotheques were not there.

I think the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the responsible councils should be held responsible for ‘noise pollution’ in such a way that such places of entertainment need to follow strict rules against noise and also be given a time limit of when to close their clubs. It is the entertainment places like these which should sound-proof their premises.

The residents have no business sound-proofing their houses. As a tenant, how can I afford to ‘sound- proof’ a house that is not mine. The entertainment places are very close to the road and do not provide ample parking slots for their customers and still make the most noise with their open-air discos.

The culprits should be fined and closed for their noisy discotheques rather than make the residents pay for peaceful sleep which they are entitled to. NEMA is not doing its duty and is therefore part of the problem!
