I don’t do ‘things’ with strangers

UGANDA'S Big Brother Africa 3 representative Morris Mugisha returned home last Tuesday after spending 70 days on the M-Net reality show. The 29-year-old model talked to Nigel Nassar about his women magnetism.

Your eviction made you lose the chance to win $100,000. How does it feel?
Man, the format of that game is that only one person out of 12 wins the money. Well, it hurts that I am not the winner, but I have come to terms with it, after all I wasn’t the first evictee. I played the game to my best – spent 70 days in the house, became head of house twice in a row, name it. I have no regrets, really.

You also had Latoya to kiss at will, how come you are forgetting that highlight?
Oh, yeah, that too. In fact, she just called me a few minutes back and we had a chat.

Any highlights of your chat?
We just talked about our eviction experiences, being back home to a host of fans yet we left as nobodies, future plans and the like.

Speaking of future plans, Latoya told me in her post-eviction interview that she would come to Kampala purposely to pose for a photo-shoot at your house…
You are kidding me, right? It definitely can’t be at my house. At my studio would do, not my house.

Shouldn’t we expect something more than just another photo-shoot?
Come on, Nigel, you are so sick. Latoya and I had a good romance going in the house, but it’s different now. In fact when she called, our conversation was platonic, nothing like sweet memories and stuff. But hey, you know she left me and went for Ricco.

You were too slow. In fact, she had earlier said to Tawana that she missed sex, and you were there pulling off lines from Shakespeare…
Man, I don’t rush about such things, especially when it involves a stranger. I just had to let go.

But you kept tabs on her, telling her how you missed her and wanted her back. Was that real were you acting for the camera?
Well, I had enjoyed what we had together and wanted it to continue, at least for the time I was still in the house. But when the fake evictions came and I was a victim, I realised the guys might have nominated me because of my romance with Latoya. So, I got back onto my feet, dusted myself up and concentrated on the game.

Towards your eviction, you started bullying Ricco. Was it because he beat you to Latoya?
I wouldn’t call that bullying. Ricco was my closest after Uti, so why bully him. I took my break-up with Latoya in stride and didn’t in any way, take it out on Ricco.

I just enjoyed teasing him, but it was friendly, really. And I liked him for not getting annoyed. I think that character trait is going to make him win the jackpot.

On your first night in the house, Lucille asked you to share a bed with her and you turned down the offer. Why?
It just happened, I didn’t think through it. But man, how do you just jump to bed with a stranger the first night you meet her? I didn’t have any intentions of sleeping around.

Not that you would have sex with her – just sharing her bed because yours was wet and she was being nice. By going into hers and playing nice-boy-doesn’t-disturb, you would have won her trust, hence a rosy relationship. Fans here favoured that girl for you.
What if I jumped into that bed and failed to act nice boy? That’s not the kind of publicity I would want from this opportunity. I just wanted to leave no room for temptation and it worked. In Uganda, we have strict attachment to morals. And hey, it was our first few hours together.

Something tells me you two had a silent crush on each other, just that none of you could swallow their pride and make the first move…
I must admit, Lucille was ‘hot’ (read beautiful). But you know about hot girls and what goes on in their arena. Almost all the guys had their eyes on her. I wasn’t prepared to join the fight and get nominated for eviction as a way of purging competition for her.

Mimi said she found you attractive. But you told her off that she didn’t entice you one bit. How could you treat a lady so coldly?
Maybe my diction was wrong, but I can’t have been as cold as Uti, who said it to her face that she was fat and ugly. Well, I am not the kind of guy that minces words. I call a spade a spade and naturally, I was never attracted to Mimi. If she was attracted to me, that’s her business.

Then Tawana too had a thing for you, ditto Hazel who couldn’t bring herself to saying it. Latoya took you hostage the moment she set eyes on you. Do you have a women magnet of sorts?
I don’t know really, but women tend to act that way around me. And I don’t like it because I would prefer someone to like the inner person in me, not the outer features.

Believe you me if I had thrown myself at all those beauties in that house, I would have lost focus and got evicted sooner. Bad things come wrapped up in beautiful skins just like that sour chloroquine which comes sugar-coated.

From your conversation in the house about the mother of your daughter Hailey, it seemed as though you would never allow her back into your life. What did she do that’s so unforgivable?
I don’t want to go there, man. Let’s concentrate on me because she’s living a different life now, and I don’t know how many people are in it. What if I say things and they mess up her life or hurt the other people in it?

You fell head-over-heels for the gorgeous teaser-girl Biggie brought into the house to clean the pool. We surely wouldn’t mind her coming home as mama Hailey…
Hahahaha, you are crazy. The pool girl was just one of those characters that walk past the lense of the camera. And you know their role? To give your eyes a feast and then disappear. And yes, I enjoyed what I saw, but got over her. In fact, I was just putting up a show.

That overdose of pompous words, what were you reading before Big Brother?
Man, it’s not about what I was reading. I have been a literature scholar since high school, with keen interest in African literature. So I should surely know quite a number of big words.

Sheila hated you so much she nominated you for eviction all the way, why?
I don’t know really. I considered her my sister since her country, Kenya, is just next door, only to come out of the house and be told the girl was kicking my butt left right and centre. I was surprised.

Or is it that you were her competitor for the girls since she exuded bisexual traits?
I can’t tell. I will ask her the next time I talk to her.

Did you save Takondwa to get Sheila evicted?
No, I just wanted to get Africa’s attention. Here was a guy whom everyone wanted evicted and I saved him. I knew that would cause a stir just like it did. And although many say it led to my eventual eviction, I think my eviction came because it was my time to leave.

What next after Big brother?
I will continue doing what I was doing – photography, modelling, shooting documentaries that will spearhead development, training drama in schools and acting. Sheila and I are also conceptualising a project. Just watch this space.

Big Brother saves for all housemates a daily per diem. How much money have you accumulated?
I will find out such details when I go back for the November 23 finale.

The Red Pepper thinks you are gay. Do you want to confirm this?
Well, they are entitled to their opinion. I am wondering how I would be Hailey’s father if I were gay. I am a straight guy.
