BOXING fans were left cursing Sunday night when a power blackout halted the main boxing event between Hamza Wandera and Haruna Ddiba in a super middleweight contest of the professional none title fights at Sabrina’s Pub.

Wandera was in control from the first gong up to the seventh round rocking his opponent with powerful right hooks and jabs that kept the on-rushing Ddiba at bay even after sustaining a cut on his right eyebrow due to an accidental head butt.

But the power outage in the eighth round killed the tempo, throwing the bout into a technical draw.

Wandera’s new record stands at 10 fights (9-0-2-8 KOs) while Ddiba is (1-1-2)
“We can’t go to the cards to determine the outcome of the fight because it was a ten round showdown that had not gone the full distance. So our decision is that this is a technical draw,” Sanita Maureen, the fight supervisor said.

“It would be unrealistic for us to give a decision that would be unfair for both fighters.”

Former national pugilists Fred Muhumuza and Sam Kabugo registered mixed results in their debut fights. Muhumuza was a unanimous points winner over Godfrey Katende in a lightweight contest while Kabugo was floored 15 seconds into his light heavyweight debut with Wycliff “Wicked” Muwanga.

Mudde Ntambi was inspired on by the presence of leading local artiste and self-styled Kamwokya ghetto president Bobi Wine as he dominated Sonny Kalule in his super bantamweight contest.

The fight was organised and promoted by Sweden-based promotion company ProBox Scandinavia Group.
