How community leaders can help:
Discuss the dangers and causes of malaria at your village meetings.
Malaria is spread by mosquitoes that mainly breed in stagnant water ponds and over-grown grass. Stagnant water can be in a pond, tin, an old car tyre or anything in which water can collect.
Work with the residents and dispose of the water in these areas.
Mobilise residents to drain the ponds and discourage them from digging up others.
Mobilise residents to slash bushes near residential areas.
Encourage residents to sleep under insecticide treated mosquito nets.
