How community leaders can help:
  • Discuss the dangers and causes of malaria at your village meetings.

  • Malaria is spread by mosquitoes that mainly breed in stagnant water ponds and over-grown grass. Stagnant water can be in a pond, tin, an old car tyre or anything in which water can collect.

  • Work with the residents and dispose of the water in these areas.

  • Mobilise residents to drain the ponds and discourage them from digging up others.

  • Mobilise residents to slash bushes near residential areas.

  • Encourage residents to sleep under insecticide treated mosquito nets.
