LEADING soccer fan and Express FC stalwart Mama Baker Kazibwe lost her battle with high blood pressure at Mulago Hospital yesterday. Kazibwe had been struggling with the ailment for more than five years.

Hundreds of soccer lovers, especially Express fans thronged Namasuba, (a Kampala suburb) on Entebbe Road to pay their last respects to Kazibwe whose name had become synonymous with Uganda’s soccer aristocrats Express.

According to Express’ administrative secretary Muhamood Kateregga, Kazibwe’s family will announce the burial details today but it is anticipated she will be laid to rest at her ancestral home in Kabowa near Kampala on Thursday.

“There is nothing we can say for now. The body will stay at Mulago Hospital until tomorrow (today) when it will be transported to her home in Namasuba,” said Kateregga.”

The details will be known after we have contacted her son, who is in the UK.”

Fans headed for Mulago after the news broke that one of the founders of Uganda’s women football had died.

In the afternoon, many had started arriving at her home for a vigil.

Kazibwe is also remembered for her role in organising fans to accompany and cheer Cranes and local clubs while on international engagements.
